Professor Jeremy Dale - Professor of Primary Care and Head of Unit

Jeremy's research focuses on addressing workforce issues in primary care and developing innovative solutions and models of acute care. He also has strategic oversight of work to raise the profile of General Practice in WMS at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

Dr Helen Atherton - Professor and Deputy Head of Unit

Helen’s research in eHealth explores the role of technology in primary care settings, and in particular offers a critical examination of the use of information and communications technologies as tools for delivering primary care to patients. Helen is the Unit's Research Theme Lead for 'Digital Primary Care'.

Dr Helen Gabathuler - Associate Clinical Professor (Teaching)

Helen is the Academic Lead for General Practice teaching. Her role centres around managing the GP placements across both Phase II and Phase III. She manages delivery of the GP course across the curriculum including organising the training of the community GP tutors, engaging new practices when needed and ensuring quality standards are maintained in both the community and in house teaching.

Dr Sarah Hillman - Clinical Lecturer General Practice

Sarah’s research is around Women’s health in the community and primary care. She is also the co-lead for the IAT programme within the Unit and leads the Unit Research Theme on 'Women and Family Health'.

Dr Rachel SpencerLink opens in a new window - Associate Clinical Professor, General Practice

Rachel is an academic GP and her research interest is in all aspects of patient safety in primary care and has involved in prescribing safety research for the last ten years. She helped develop prescribing indicators used by the RCGP and the CPRD. Her doctoral work focused on safety of communication at the interface of primary and secondary care and she is the Unit Research Theme Lead for 'Quality and Safety in Primary Care'.

Dr John MacArtney Link opens in a new window- Associate Professor

John is a sociologist of health and illness with specific interests in palliative and end of life care, bereavement, and diagnosis of cancer and who specialises in qualitative research. John’s current position is a partnership with Marie Curie that aims to promote research activities within Marie Curie's services through local, national and international academic and clinical collaborations. John leads the Unit Research Theme 'Life Limiting Conditions and Dying in the Community'.
