Research Interests

My particular interests are in older people research, patient and carer experiences of services associated with neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease (MND) and dementia, and patient and public involvement (PPI) in healthcare services.

Biography

I am an experienced researcher working in Higher Education and specialise in health services related research. I have worked on several qualitative and mixed methods studies including systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials, and instrument development. I have worked on studies across the life cycle from babies of vulnerable mothers to the frail elderly, and on studies in both public health and NHS clinical settings.
I am Principal Investigator on the SHARED study funded by the National Institute for Health Research: a 2 year study investigating the experiences of health and social care service delivery after hospital discharge for people with undiagnosed memory loss and dementia and their family carers with the purpose of developing service user-led recommendations for hospital and community staff. Service users have been involved in all stages of the research from development to dissemination. I have previously worked on several externally funded research studies with a wide variety of academics, health professionals and service users, and have a wide experience of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. I am also a PhD supervisor and examiner of PhD vivas and first year upgrades. I have presented at many major conferences both nationally and internationally, and I review manuscripts for several academic journals, and grant applications for major research funding bodies.
