Design and analysis of complex intervention clinical trials in critical care and rehabilitation.

Biography

I qualified with a BSc in Mathematics and MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Leicester. In 2004, I obtained my PhD in "The application of Ordinal Regression Models in Quality of Life Scales used in Gerontology" at the University of Sheffield, in the Faculty of Medicine.

As a Professor of Clinical Trials and Biostatistics at the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit (WCTU), I provide oversight to the Statistics Group at the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit and lead on the design and analysis of an internationally competitive and sustainable portfolio of clinical trials in the area of complex interventions (rehabilitation and accident and emergency care). I have responsibility, with the Director, for the strategic management and development of the WCTU, gaining world-wide recognition for excellence in the conduct of randomized controlled trials. My contributions towards this aim have included taking the lead in delivering the Conference of Clinical Trials of Complex Interventions and Multi-components (April 2015, Warwick) and taking the lead on delivering the Workshop in the Design and Analysis of Complex Interventions (at the International Clinical Trials Methodology Conference, Glasgow, 2015).

As a member of the Senior Management Team, one of my responsibilities is the continued development of the statisticians in the WCTU. I have successfully secured funding for a NIHR HTA Methodology Fellowship awards and I current manage a team of research fellows and associate research fellows statisticians. In collaboration with the Mathematics Department at Warwick University, I am proactive and committed in providing development opportunities and training for MSc students who seek summer work placements, in the view that they develop a career path in the area of statistics in clinical trials. Currently I am a main supervisor on four PhD students.
