This module introduces the principles of management in the context of child health. It carries 20 CATS points at Masters level. This module may be taken alone as a Postgraduate Award (PGA) or as an optional module in the MSc in Child Health.
Aims
This module aims to provide participants with a wider understanding of the principles of management and the ways in which it affects child health services in general. It focuses the students on the various issues, but particularly asks them to analyse, critically, their workplaces considering how effective they are themselves as well as the ways in which they may affect their own work teams.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- have a clear understanding of the workings of organisations in the health care sector
- analyse and identify the environmental issues affecting child health care both now and in the foreseeable future
- examine critically their own personal effectiveness and analyse how their behaviour affects their work team
- gain perceptive insights into comparative child health systems
- understand the use and value of routine child health data systems and to reflect on how these systems can be used to inform an evidence base for their own practice.
