This module is designed to give healthcare workers involved in the care of women with diabetes mellitus who are pregnant or planning pregnancy or who develop diabetes during pregnancy, the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to provide high quality care as outlined in the National Service Framework


Diabetes in adults Quality Standard 7 states:
Women of childbearing age with diabetes are regularly informed of the benefits of preconception glycaemic control and of any risks, including medication that may harm an unborn child. Women with diabetes planning a pregnancy are offered preconception care and those not planning a pregnancy are offered advice on contraception. (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence 2011
