Information regarding individual APTS weeks, 2007-2008

Below you can find information regarding local arrangements for each APTS week, including contact details, provisional timetables and travel advice.

Please note: if you have a query regarding any local arrangements for a given week, you should contact the local organisers (whose details will be listed below nearer the time), and not APTS itself.

 


Week 4: University of Glasgow (1st-5th September 2008)

  • Local organiser: Adrian Bowman - adrian at stats dot gla dot ac dot uk
  • Modules: Spatial and Longitudinal Data Analysis (P.J. Diggle); Nonparametric Smoothing (A. Delaigle)
  • Accommodation: Students will be staying in Queen Margaret Residences, Bellshaugh Court, Kirklee, Glasgow G12 0PR. These are single, en suite rooms, organised in flats of five bedrooms, each with shared kitchen facilities. All linen and towels are provided. There is also off-street parking. Internet access is available free of charge in each bedroom, for those who have laptops of their own. Campus map (PDF Document); map of university residences (PDF Document).
  • Travel: Students are expected to travel to Glasgow on Sunday 31st August, ready for lectures to begin first thing Monday morning. The APTS week will finish at lunchtime on Friday, as usual. Accommodation will be provided for the nights of Sunday 31st August to Thursday 4th September inclusive. Information on how to get to Glasgow University can be found here.
  • Registration: For check-in on Sunday 31st August, Reception is open until 9pm. If you will be arriving after that time, please contact Kathleen Mosson (kathleen at stats dot gla dot ac dot uk) in order that keys can be made available by other means. Registration for the APTS week will take place between 5pm and 8pm on Sunday 31st August at Queen Margaret Residences. Registration will also be possible between 8.30am and 9am on September 1st, at the Department of Statistics in the University of Glasgow. However, in order to save time, students are requested to make use of the registration at Queen Margaret Residences if at all possible.

Week 3: University of Bristol (7th-11th July 2008)

  • Local organiser: Sean Collins - E dot J dot Collins at bristol dot ac dot uk
  • Modules: Applied Stochastic Processes (W.S. Kendall); Computationally-intensive Statistical Methods (B.D. Ripley)
  • Accommodation: Students will be staying in Clifton Hill House, Lower Clifton Hill, BS8 1BX. This is the building marked 'W' on this accommodation map. Rooms will be available from 1030 on Monday 7th July - keys should be collected from the reception at Clifton Hill House.
    Students are advised to check-in to their accommodation before proceeding to the APTS registration desk.
  • Travel: Information on how to get to Bristol University can be found here. To get to Clifton Hill House by bus from the main station (Bristol Temple Meads) take the number 8 or 8A from near the station entrance to the Students' Union on Queen's Road; continue along Queen's Road and take the second left into Clifton Road; follow Clifton Road along to the junction with Lower Clifton Hill, adjacent to Clifton Hill House.

    Parking at the hall is very limited and would need to be arranged in advance. Parking in the university car parks is by permit only. Students are therefore encouraged to arrive by train or coach.

  • Registration: Registration will be open between 1115 and 1245 on Monday 7th July.
  • Academy dinner: On the Thursday evening we shall be holding an 'Academy dinner'. Please use this form to select your menu for the evening, by Friday 23rd May.

Week 2: University of Oxford (7th-11th April 2008)

  • Local organiser: Jan Boylan - boylan at stats dot ox dot ac dot uk
  • Modules: Statistical Modelling (A.C. Davison and J.J. Forster); Statistical Asymptotics (G.A. Young)
  • Accommodation: Students will be staying in Wadham College, and all meals will be served here. Accommodation has been booked for the nights of Monday 7th - Thursday 11th April inclusive. Rooms will be available for checking in from 1200 on the Monday. Meal times are as follows: breakfast 0800-0845; lunch 1300; dinner 1915.

    All APTS lectures will take place in the lecture theatre at Wadham; computer labs will take place in the OUCS.

  • Travel: Information on how to get to Oxford University can be found here. Note that there is no parking available in the University, and so students are encouraged to arrive by train or coach. Wadham College is a short 10 minute walk from the coach station (along George Street, Broad Street and left into Parks Road) and about a 15 minute walk from the railway station: see the map here (PDF Document). Taxis are available at both these locations if needed.
  • Registration: Registration will be open between 1115 and 1245 on Monday 7th April, and will take place in the Lodge at Wadham college.

Week 1: University of Warwick (10th-14th December 2007)

  • Local organiser: Stephen Connor - s dot b dot connor at warwick dot ac dot uk
  • Modules: Statistical Computing (S.N. Wood); Statistical Inference (D.R. Cox and D.Firth)
  • Travel: Information on how to get to the University of Warwick can be found here. In particular, if you are arriving by rail, see the information here. Buses from Coventry station to campus take approximately 20-25 minutes. If you are arriving by car, please use Car Park 15: you can then obtain a code from Rootes Reception (when checking in to your accommodation) which will allow you to exit the car park without paying.
  • Accommodation: All students requiring accommodation will be housed in Rootes halls, about 3 minutes walk from the centre of campus. Accommodation has been booked for the nights of Monday 10th - Thursday 13th December. Linen is provided and all rooms have internet connections (although you will need to provide your own cables). Bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared. Meals will be provided in Rootes Restaurant.

    All APTS lectures and classes will take place in the Mathematics and Statistics building, situated on main campus. Click here for a map of Warwick campus: Rootes accommodation is marked by 46, and the Mathematics and Statistics building is number 35.

  • Registration: Registration will be open between 1115 and 1245 on Monday 10th December, in the Mathematics and Statistics building. Please visit the registration desk during this period to receive your welcome pack. You will not be able to check into your accommodation until 1500, but you may leave baggage at Rootes Reception (building 49 on the above map) before this if you wish.
