Course Aims

To support the development of personnel to fill the roles of cybersecurity experts, risk owners and managers in security-critical organisations to meet national and international needs.

To develop the student's capability to manage and lead in information- and network-security roles or in the capacity of a senior risk owner.

Filling the perceived skills gap manifesting in lack of personnel with both broad technical domain knowledge of cybersecurity and professional management know-how.

To provide an advanced knowledge and understanding of the applicable theory and methodologies in cybersecurity and in enterprise management.

Course Learning Outcomes

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of the best-practice techniques used to deliver cybersecurity.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of the management and security operational requirements of an information-rich digital enterprise.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of the techniques used to manage information risk in an enterprise
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of the implications of globalisation on cybersecurity.
• Advanced understanding of the place of human factors in the management of organisations and knowledge of the strategic processes and choices in people-management policies
• Advanced understanding of financial models and principles and management implications of alternative costing methodologies.

• A critical awareness of cybersecurity issues in current information and network critical enterprises.
• A comprehensive understanding of and competence in the
• practice of information risk management.
• An ability to assess security solutions for appropriateness as risk mitigations within an information risk management strategy
• Ability to perform analysis and evaluation of complex technical and business information

Module Requirements for Cyber Security and Management

Candidates for the MSc will be required to take 180 credits overall to include modules equivalent to at least 50 credits from the Required list, and at least 30 credits from the Defined Elective list, as well as a dissertation project.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma will be required to take at least 60 module credits, of which 30 must be from the Required list, as well as a dissertation project considered by an Exam Board to be a pass at Postgraduate Diploma level.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Certificate will be required to pass 60 credits, of which 30 must be from the Required list.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Award will be required to pass 30 credits from the Required list.

Definition of terms:

• Core: students must pass the module (50% or above)
• Optional core: students must take the stated proportion of modules from this list and must achieve a pass (50% or above).
• Required: students must achieve mark of 40% or above on the module
• Defined Elective: students must take the stated proportion of modules from this limited list
• Optional (elective) modules: students may take any remaining credits from this list after satisfying the list requirements outlined above
• Students are still required to achieve the stated amount of passed credits and credits failed in the 40s for award as per General PGT Regulations page
