The oral presentation is designed to allow the candidate to demonstrate the following:

• Understanding of problem
• The dissertation describes their own work
• Ability to communicate (in English) orally as well as in writing

Result	Oral Component Descriptor
Pass	The candidate demonstrated an understanding of the work presented and was able to answer questions on both the work presented and on the subject area in general and defend the work undertaken and its suitability for the degree in question.
Fail	The candidate showed an incomplete understanding of the area of work and general difficulty in handling questions without help. Was not able to convince the assessors that the work presented was that of the candidate.
