Although many companies are looking to reduce their transport carbon footprint, a common cry from transport and fleet managers is that options are limited, and the costs and benefits of new technology difficult to predict.

The WMG Hybrid & Eco-Friendly Vehicle Exhibition, held on 7 June at the Prodrive Test Track in Warwickshire, showcased hybrids and other green vehicles that are available now, with an opportunity to drive the vehicles back-to-back with conventional alternatives. Running in parallel with the Ride & Drive Event was an exhibition of green technologies and services, and seminars throughout the day to help buyers understand the options. The event was opened by Brendan Connor, Chairman of Cenex, an organisation that helps companies develop and adopt low carbon technologies.

David Richards, Chairman of Prodrive, suggested motorsport offered an excellent opportunity to both demonstrate green technologies and bring them to the attention of the public; this message was reinforced by the Prodrive-developed bio-fuel Aston Martin, which won its first race only days earlier. The event was a huge success, with nearly 200 enthusiastic delegates testing a full range of eco-friendly vehicles, from the BMW Hydrogen 7, to the bio-ethanol powered Saab Biopower and Ford Focus flex-fuel range, to the Lexus, Toyota Prius and Honda Civic hybrids. There was a great deal of interest around the Oaktec rally prepared Honda Insight, and the Amberjac Plug-in Prius, both of which have been developed with the help of the WMG Hybrid Team, and Coventry success story Modec with their fully-electric delivery van (featured in pics).
