WMG LOOKS TO EXTEND COLLABORATIVE OPERATIONS TO RUSSIA

EMBARGOED: 00:01 MONDAY 1 OCTOBER 2007

WMG, the global innovation group at the University of Warwick, is seeking to expand its collaborative research and education programmes into new territory: Russia.

Earlier this year the Russian Minister of Telecommunications visited WMG to discuss the potential for WMG, in partnership with a leading Russian body, to provide support in research, education and knowledge transfer to companies based in Russia.  This follows the model successfully applied in WMG’s collaborative operations in China, India, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand.

WMG’s ideal partner is the Bonch-Bruevich Saint Petersburg State University of Telecommunications and today WMG welcomes a delegation led by Professor Alexander Gogol, the Rector of the University, to discuss the development.

WMG founder and director Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya said: “This new collaboration will benefit both Warwick and Saint Petersburg universities as well as Russian companies and global organisations with a base in Russia.

“We look forward to an exciting new expansion in our continuing programme of international development.”
