WMG RESEARCHER WINS IDENTITY ‘OSCAR’ FOR UAE ID CARD SCHEME 

A WMG engineering doctorate researcher has won an international award for his work on the United Arab Emirates identity card scheme. 

Ali Mohammed Al-Khouri, now the Assistant Director General at the Emirates Identity Authority, was a winner at the Fifth ID World International Congress People Awards for work he conducted with WMG researcher Dr Jay Bal.  

At the ceremony, awards were presented in recognition of the contribution made by thought leaders, innovators and pioneering adopters who distinguished themselves by their achievements during the past 12 months.  

Mr Al-Khouri won the Outstanding Achievement Award for playing a pivotal role in the establishment of a G2C eGovernment national ID program in the UAE that has helped improve public services in the country.

Mr Al Khouri was also awarded a Technology Leader for the Middle East award by ID World for related work. Mr Al-Khouri also received the Who’s Who of Government Technology Middle East Award in 2006, presented to him by UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and the League of Arab States.  The award was presented to him during the Government Technology Summit Middle East held in Dubai last year.
