This form will register you for the free A-level English Language teachers’ workshop “Teaching Language Variation and Change through Sociophonetic Analysis” at the University of Warwick on Wednesday 10th April 2019 from 10am until 2pm (includes networking lunch).

This workshop explores ways that A-level students can study language variation and change through sociophonetic analysis. It introduces freely available resources for analysing speech. A-level students may use these to improve their understanding of phonetics and phonology, as well as their relationship to concepts like language change, regional and social dialects, and style shifting. The workshop also demonstrates two lesson plans for teaching sociophonetic analysis at A-level. The lessons plans will give students practice in impressionistic and acoustic analysis of speech, show students how they can integrate previous research into their own projects, and enable students to do basic quantitative and qualitative analysis of sociophonetic data. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop with internet access and headphones to participate in the demonstration.

If you would like to attend, please fill in this booking form by Wednesday 3rd April 2018. We will be in touch nearer the time with room information and directions.

Thank you for filling in your details – we look forward to seeing you soon!
