My key research interests include Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL), reflective practice, student-centered teaching approaches and the use of ICT to support teacher development and lifelong learning. In addition, I am also interested in researching academic writing in EFL classrooms, e-feedback strategies and classroom discourse in EFL contexts.
My Commonwealth-funded doctoral research investigates the use and implementation of context-appropriate technology-enhanced learning designs to encourage the construction and practice of digital reflective narratives in MA TESOL/ELT programmes. Developing sound engagement with participants is a major priority in my research. Currently, I am collaborating closely with a group of MA ELT students and teachers from Bangladesh.
I have been teaching for nearly eight years now. Prior to starting my PhD at Warwick, I worked as an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Additionally, I have experience supervising practicum and dissertation students on the MA in ELT programmes at both public and private universities in Dhaka. As a Senior GTA in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Warwick, I assisted in teaching Spoken Interaction and Research Methods in TESOL modules on the MA TESOL programme. Currently, I am supervising MA TESOL students’ dissertations.
I also completed my MA in ELT as a Hornby Scholar from the Department of Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick.

Thanks to various opportunities in Warwick, I have gained interest in professional communication, crisis communication, and sociophonetics. My PhD project is focused on how sarcasm is delivered with prosody in a humorous context.
I support teaching in various MSc seminars at the Department of Applied Linguistics. Before coming to Warwick, I used to work as a translator for the Ministry of Treasury and Finance in Turkey for over 10 years.

I do research with children and adolescents to understand lived experiences of language learning motivation change over time. My research interests are the motivation of young language learners, sense of agency, L2 self, and participatory research. Jointly funded by Warwick and CSC, my doctoral project explores how L2 learners of different ages perceive and agentively self-regulate motivational ups and downs. Before starting PhD journey, I completed my master's degree in TESOL with distinction from Warwick. I currently support the teaching of the same MA TESOL programme, in the module ET9C6 Specialism in Classroom Motivation.

My research interests encompass the construction of masculinities, gender studies, and critical discourse analysis. At present, I am concentrating on the masculinity construction of Chinese male international students studying in the UK.
I obtained my undergraduate degree from the University of Nottingham and hold two master’s degrees: one from the University of Warwick (MSc ICBP) and the other from UCL (MSc Language Sciences). Since 2021, I have been assisting with teaching at the Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warwick. From 2022 onwards, I have been contributing to various modules, including ET910 Exploring Professional Communication, ET915 Leadership, Teamwork and Culture, ET9D7 Research Methods, and ET924 Dissertation. As a former MSc ICBP student and a current senior GTA, I hope I can bridge the connection between current students and the department.

My research interests cover multimodal communication, conversion analysis, social interaction, and classroom discourse. In my PhD research, I delve into the multimodal interactional processes where peers undertake relationship work in second language classrooms.
Before I came to Warwick, I completed my MA in Applied Linguistics with Distinction at UCL. During my master studies, I worked for the IOE Confucius Institute for Schools at UCL, supporting the teaching and delivery of the Mandarin Upskilling Course. I am currently in charge of the seminar teaching for Spoken Interaction course and dissertation supervision for MA TESOL programme in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Warwick. I also work as a Facilitator for Intercultural Training programme at Warwick Student Opportunity, and an Associate Tutor for Warwick Community Values Education Programme.

My primary research interests are in teacher development, and psychological aspects involved in continual teacher development and its influence on students' learning and development. I am interested in language learning psychology, teacher and learner perspectives, and the contribution of positive psychology to teachers' continual professional development. Apart from language learning and teacher psychology, I am also interested in second language vocabulary teaching and learning.
In my Ph.D. I explore the concept of feedback-seeking behavior in English language teachers and its possible contribution to teacher development. I have worked for more than ten years as a lecturer teaching various courses such as English for specific purposes, linguistics, psycholinguistics, phonetics, and general English. I am currently collaborating with Applied Linguistics Department at the University of Warwick as a GTA.

My main research interests are corpus linguistics and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). More specifically, I am interested in the development of corpus-informed computer-based teaching materials for the English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) classroom. My research in this area has been: commended for its potential for impact by the British Council; published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Academic Language and Learning; and used by professional materials developers at EAP Foundation. My ESRC funded PhD project is titled ‘Developing and Exploiting an ESAP Corpus: Design, Compilation, Exploration and the Creation of an Online Lexical Tool’.
Over the past 10 years, I have taught General English, English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in the UK, continental Europe and Asia. Most recently, I have been assisting in the teaching of various modules on the MA TESOL in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Warwick.

I am a Monash-Warwick Joint PhD researcher. My ongoing PhD research examines the performance of knowledge and expertise by "celebrity tutors" (i.e., famous private tutors) in Hong Kong. My research interests lie in critical sociolinguistics and discourse studies, particularly in language and the market, and professional communication. I have published in journals such as Pragmatics and Society, Linguistic Landscape, and Discourse & Society.
Before staring my PhD, I completed my MPhil (English Studies) and BA (English Studies and Geography) at the University of Hong Kong. I have held teaching and research positions at various universities in Hong Kong and Australia. My previous teaching spanned a range of courses and topics in literature, English linguistics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics and academic English. At Warwick, I contribute to the Approaches to Written Discourse module in the MA TESOL programme.

I am currently doing my PhD and hold an MSc in ICBP from the University of Warwick. My research interests are centred on teamwork in diverse contexts. I am particularly interested in discourse analysis, (im)politeness, conflict and relationship management, identity construction and stance theory. More specifically, my CSC-funded doctoral research investigates how Chinese students negotiate relationships and conflicts in teamwork over time, paying attention to individual patterns of engagement through examining actual discourse in different contexts.
Since 2022, I have been contributing to a range of MSc modules, including ET910 Exploring Professional Communication, ET9A2 Media and Intercultural Communication, ET908 Understanding Culture, and ET924 Dissertation. My main research interests are teacher-oriented: teacher research, teacher education, mentoring, and teacher psychology. Particularly, I am interested in how the knowledge of teacher research could be employed for teachers’ professional development and to promote their understanding of their own identity as a language teacher and quality of the life in the classroom. My current Ph.D. study is focusing on experienced high school English language teachers in China and our journey together to explore how teacher research could promote their professional development as language teachers and how mentoring teachers to do research could contribute to my role as a teacher educator.
I am an experienced and award-winning English language teacher and a novice teacher educator with practice both in China and UK, across a variety of different educational settings, including private language training centers, public schools, and higher institutions. I also work as a research assistant for projects in different departments at the University of Warwick, as well as as a Blogger for my Ph.D. Life at Warwick Library.

She is also a Research Associate at The Alan Turing Institute. Yesim’s areas of research interest include identity construction, social integration, (critical) discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, humour and gender in the broader context of migration. Yesim is committed to issues of social justice and equality and brings this to her work as an academic.
