In the Centre for Applied Linguistics, our MSc students have expertise in languages, intercultural communication and business and are interested in applying this expertise in short four-week work placements. Their goals are:
- To reflect on the theory they have been studying during their Master’s as they engage in real world, day-to-day workplace tasks
- To help local companies with any intercultural communication needs they may have
- And/or to gain valuable experience to make them more competitive in the job market

Benefits for your business
There are a number of potential benefits from having one of our MSc students working with you, some of which may be more relevant in your particular context. For example, you may be able get help with a particular language or market that a student is familiar with, you could get a new perspective on a particular intercultural communication issue from someone who has an up-to-date understanding of theory into intercultural communication, or you can help an MSc student get their foot on the employment ladder by offering them a valuable work experience opportunity.
I'm an employer and I'm interested in hosting a student. What do I need to do?
If you would be interested in having one of our MSc students work with you on a placement, get in touch with Dr Kieran File k dot file at warwick dot ac dot uk (MSc Workplace Officer in the Centre for Applied Linguistics) for more details.
We want to make the process as reflective of real world job hunting as possible, so we would need from you a brief company and job description that we can advertise to our students. Students will submit a cover letter and CV to you and you can interview and/or select the most appropriate candidate. Alternatively, we can conduct this selection process for you.
Upon appointing a candidate, a short contract, primarily covering health and safety concerns, will need to be prepared and signed. The contract is also an opportunity for you (the ‘employer’) to stipulate anything that is important to raise, or that you would like to bring to the attention of the student in advance of undertaking a placement.
