Professor Muthoo discusses capitalism on the BBC's newly relaunched 'Talking Business' programme

Professor Abhinay Muthoo recently appeared in the BBC’s newly relaunched “Talking Business” global discussion programme discussing capitalism.

The programme, hosted by Tanya Beckett, featured a debate on the topic of global capitalism post-recession and Professor Muthoo was joined by Sir Andrew Likierman, the Dean of the London Business School.

Questions discussed during the segment included whether or not Capitalism has been a force for good, and to what extent Thomas Piketty had been correct in his analysis of the challenges and problems of the current capitalist system.

Professor Muthoo, appears on the BBC's Talking Business.

When questioned about how it is difficult to create equal opportunity, Professor Muthoo said:

Governments, both nationally and internationally, need to use a number of policy instruments to address how to lift the bottom 20% or 25% out of desperate situations, by a combination of education, investment in skills and also benefits and support, hence redistribution is an important part of a decent society.
