Staff from the Department of Economics have recently returned from India after delivering the first ever Pre-University Summer School in Economics and Finance.

This new and exciting initiative was hosted by the prestigious British School in New Delhi, with whom Warwick’s Department of Economics had partnered with to develop and deliver the venture.

From the 1st to the 5th of July, Head of Department Professor Abhinay Muthoo, Chief Policy and Strategy Officer Siobhan Benita, and Director of Undergraduate Studies Elizabeth Jones delivered the Summer School to over 45 students from across India. Two students had even travelled from as far away as Singapore to be a part of the inaugural event, which was aimed primarily at 16-17 year olds.

In addition to four hours of academic learning each day, the students also undertook personal development sessions in key skills including teamwork and effective communication, and ended with a graduation event for students and their parents to attend.

The ground-breaking Summer School generated media coverage in a range of outlets across India including in The Hindustan Times and The Telegraph.

About the venture, Professor Muthoo said:

I’m excited to be part of this collaboration in the heart of Delhi. I want this experience to show students what it is like to learn economics or finance at degree level in a top University like Warwick, and in so doing I hope it inspires them to explore the disciplines further.

I’m also delighted to be working with such a fantastic partner as The British School who provided the very best facilities and environment for the students.

The feedback from the students who attended was overwhelmingly positive with 100% of them saying they would recommend the experience to a friend.
