Our highly-regarded MSc in Economics course provides dedicated teaching in the advanced core areas of macroeconomic and microeconomic theory, econometrics and research methods and also gives you the opportunity to choose from an interesting portfolio of optional modules.

At the end of your programme you will be able to read and understand research papers and articles in academic journals, to build simple theoretical models, to initiate your own empirical research and to evaluate its findings.

Three optional modules

Students need to have previously completed modules in macroeconomics and microeconomics. The MSc Economics is a quantitative degree and students will need to be competent in several areas of mathematics. All student attend a short pre-sessional mathematics and statistics course before the term starts.

Typical careers paths

Professional economist positions in government or the private sector. Graduates may also go on to careers in banking, finance, business and public policy as consultants or analysts, or academic research.

Entry requirements

First or upper-second class honours degree or equivalent in economics or a closely-related subject.

If English is not your first language, IELTS 6.5 is required.
