Giuseppe Bianco

Dr. Giuseppe Bianco, Research Assistent (2011-14)

I took my BA from the University of Trieste (2001), my MA from Paris VIII University (2003) and my Phd from Lille3 University (2009).

I've been researcher at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (2002-2005), researcher at Maastricht's Jan Van Eyck Academy (2009-2010), and post-doctoral fellow at the CIRPHLES of the Ecole normale supérieure (2010-2011). Since 2006 I'm one of the core members of the CIEPFC, which is part of the CIRPHLES.

I'm part of a project (fundend by the Singer Polignac Trust and based at the Ecole normale) aiming at valorizing Jean Hyppolite's archives.

In the framework of the Levelhume Research project "Issues in bioethics and biopolitics", I'm studying the history of the relation between philosophy (especially French) and the life sciences in the light of the biopolitical paradigm. The project will end on February 2014.

With Charles Turner of the sociology departement, Marjorie Gracieuse and Miguel De Beistegui of the philosophy departement I'm taking part of a project (funded by the Institute for Advanced Study) aiming at studying the influence of Anglo-American pragmatism on French philosophy and French sociology. The project will end on July 2013.

I worked extensively on the main figures and transformations of XX century French philosophy, on bergsonism and on the reception of bergsonian philosophy (in philosophy and political thought, psychology, epistemology and the social sciences), on Gilles Deleuze's intellectual itinerary, on French epistremology (Bachelard, Canguilhem, Koyré, etc.), on the relations between philosophy, psychology and the social sciences.

I am interested in epistemological and methodological issues concerning the relations between history of philosophy, social history, intellectual history, sociology of philosophy and the study of cultural transfers (both between different disciplines and different national traditions). I am also interested in the history of philosophical institutions in Europe and in the transformations of the place of philosophy inside European society.

I'm actually writing a book on the reception of Bergson and bergsonism in Twentieth century France and gathering unpublished materials in order to write a book on Deleuze's intellectual itinerary. I finished a book on Jean Hyppolite, Jean Hyppolite entre Structure et Existence and, with my friend Tzuchien Tho, I edited Badiou and the Philosophers, a collection of interviews between Badiou and Canguilhem, Foucault, Hyppolite, Henry, Aron, Ricoeur.

This year I tought a module on Deleuze and XX Century French Philosophy.
