9 Reasons to study PPE at Warwick

1: High Quality Teaching

Our three PPE departments are internationally renowned for their teaching and research. All three departments have been ranked in the top 100 QS World University Rankings (2023) and the top 5 in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide. (2024).

2: World Leading Research

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), PPE performed excellently. Politics and International Studies ranked 1st for Research Environment, Economics ranked 2nd in the UK for research excellence and Philosophy had 48% of their research assessed as world-leading in terms of its originality, significance, and rigour.

3: Bridging the Disciplines

Throughout your programme, we provide a range of opportunities for you to investigate how the three subjects relate to one another.  Our final-year core modules provide real life context for students to integrate their studies in the three disciplines and to focus on important topics at the intersection of philosophy, politics, and economics.

4: Flexibility to Specialise

In the course of your studies you will select your own individual pathway and thereby tailor the programme to your interests and future plans. Depending on your chosen pathway and modules, you can graduate with either a BA or BSc. The size and scope of the departments mean you’ll have dozens of high-quality optional modules to choose from, while your core modules are carefully designed to provide you with a solid foundation in all three subjects.

5: A Diverse and Active Community

With a research community of over 180 members of academic staff across the departments and around 175 students in your year group from all over the world, Warwick is a diverse and interesting place to study PPE.  Beyond the classroom, we offer subject-related talks, debates, conferences and film screenings to allow you to think even more deeply.

6: An International Perspective

We encourage an international outlook which is reflected in modules that focus on global issues, in our teaching staff’s international experience and in our diverse cohort, which in recent years included students from over 30 countries. You can extend your own reach further by adding a year of work or study abroad to your programme. Current students have experienced Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan, or have chosen to integrate a year in the USA or Canada into their programme.

7: NSS Student Satisfaction

Our students give consistently excellent feedback on their course. According to the National Student Survey (NSS 2022-23), 95% of our students found the course intellectually stimulating, and 90% were positive about the chances to bring together information and ideas from different topics.

8: Employability

As a Warwick graduate, you'll be sought after by employers. Warwick is the 5th most targeted university nationally by the UK’s top 100 graduate employers (The Graduate Market in 2023, High Fliers Research Ltd.).

9: One to One Support

There are excellent opportunities to be in contact with academic experts in the field, from regular seminars and tutorials to specialisation through a dissertation or research project in your final year. We also benefit from our own PPE Director, Director of Student Experience and Progression, and Director of Personal Development, who all support student development and help students to gain all they can from their time at Warwick.

What Our Students Say

What I love about studying PPE at Warwick are the many opportunities to pursue your interests and talents far beyond the course. I had the chance to get involved in academic research as a PPE Research Assistant, where I worked with academics across universities on a philosophical research project. No matter what you’re interested in - whether it is opportunities such as going abroad or specific academic fields you want to discover - you will always find someone to support you on your path and help you grow."

Katharina

"PPE has really been an interesting course to study. As I am a person who loves to learn about a lot of things, it's been great for me to be educated in these three different fields. As challenging as it has been, I've really enjoyed how I can pick up knowledge in each subject, and then be able to look at another subject with fresh eyes due to this knowledge."
