The Organisation and Human Resource Management (OHRM) group at WBS analyses the organisation of work using theories and methods from social science. We are a diverse multi-disciplinary group that seeks explanation from different levels, some analyse micro structures of everyday work practice, whilst others base explanation at the organisational level. Presently, most members are interested in how institutions shape our lives and societies, often in unseen and unimagined ways.
The Industrial Relations Research Unit (IRRU) is located within the group, which is world renowned for its leading role in the analysis of industrial relations through theoretically informed, empirical enquiry.
The OHRM group is presently, and has been, home to key figures in the development of our respective fields, including Hugh Clegg, Richard Hyman, Gibson Burrell, Karen Legge, Glenn Morgan, Paul Edwards, Chris Grey, Keith Grint and Hari Tsoukas.
Group members conduct a mix of theoretical and applied empirical work. But we also engage with practitioners and policy bodies including business organisations, charities, the National Health Service, the European Commission, UK Police Forces, employers organisations, Trade Unions, NGOs and social movements.
If you are interested in our work, please contact Professor Kim Hoque (Head of Group) or Racheal Monnington (Group Co-Ordinator).
