Dr Muriel Erent, Research Associate, Biomedical Cell Biology Division, University of Warwick will speak on "New tools for in vivo tubulin dynamic assays".

 In mammalian cells, during mitosis, the microtubules forming the bipolar spindle are highly dynamic. At metaphase, the aligned chromosomes connected to the poles via kinetochore fibers oscillate as a consequence of plus-end microtubules dynamic. Furthermore, within the spindle, tubulin has been observed to undergo continuous movement towards the spindle pole. We want to understand the mechanism of regulation and coordination within the mitotic spindle. Using stable cell lines expressing a combination of fluorescent labeled proteins, and microscopy, we are developing some new tools and assays to look in more detail at the mechanism of microtubule regulation at the kinetochore.
