Boys Will Be Boys, Girls, Adults ...

Students and staff are invited to Shakespeare's Globe for their Spring event, a very special performance experiment tying in with the CAPITAL Centre's research for 2008.
Around the time Shakespeare was writing Hamlet, the theatrical world was rocked by the new trend for 'boy companies'- theatrical troupes made up entirely of boys, who performed complex plays written specifically for them by the same playwrights who were writing for the adult players.
As part of an ongoing project, two modern-day boy companies have been formed, one by Perry Mills, teacher at King Edward VI School in Stratford-upon-Avon and upcoming Fellow of Creativity at the CAPITAL Centre.
The two boy companies will be performing scenes on the Globe stage from John Marston's The Dutch Courtesan and Antonio & Mellida.
The day also includes speakers and discussions on the context of boy companies and plans for the future of the project when it comes to Warwick in late 2008, including a keynote speech by Carol Rutter, Director of the CAPITAL Centre and author of the newly published Shakespeare and Child's Play (Routledge, 2007)
The performances will begin at 3pm.
