Outcomes

The aim of this workshop is to help participants to be more effective as a mentor or coach. It is aimed at two types of participants. First, those who wish to be a mentor under the Warwick Mentoring Scheme. Second, those staff with management responsibilities who want to use a coaching style of leadership.

As a mentor or coach, you are trying to do two things - to raise an individual’s awareness and to help him or her to take responsibility for their actions. The two key skills you need are to listen well and to ask effective questions.

This workshop will be very practical, giving you an opportunity to run a mentoring session with another participant and to be mentored. You need to bring along two issues that you are wrestling with at the moment and that you would like to explore. You will be asked to talk about one of these issues, in confidence, when you are being mentored. (You will explore the other issue without the need to speak to anyone else about it.)
