Summary: An Invitation from the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience and the Director for IT Services: A consultation forum on Assignment Management, e-Submission and Student Feedback.

Colleagues

You will be aware that the subject of assignment management and student feedback are topical issues.

This is a complex area with many views on what constitutes best practice and the appropriate use of technology. However, it seems accepted that there is some role for electronic tools and that some kind of supporting process would be useful to aid the dialogue between academic and student.

Some exploratory work has already been done, but in order to better inform a pilot programme members of the University community are invited to attend an 'open forum' event held from Monday 18 - Thursday 21 July in CMR.02 – University House. The forum will present ideas and suggestions already captured - attendees are invited to comment on the ideas presented, contribute further ideas, amendments and observations. We would stress the pilot will consider all aspects of the issue - not just technology and process. Working patterns, preferred working styles and departmental practices will also be considered.

Some departments have expressed a sense of urgency to address the issue and the need to progress quickly. However, we must also manage the need to consult widely in order to avoid solutions that will only work for one area. We hope this forum, together with other more direct consultation, will allow us to achieve the correct balance between consultation, communication and agility. Please would you encourage appropriate colleagues to contribute to this event.
