Jean Boase-Beier studied English and Linguistics at the University of Regensburg, Germany, where she also lectured in Linguistics and German and led a research project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinshaft (German Research Council) on Word Formation. She has been at UEA since 1991, where she teaches Literary Translation, Translation Theory, Literature and Stylistics at both undergraduate and MA levels, and has supervised a large number of PhD students. She is Convenor of the MA in Literary Translation, which she set up in 1993. An Executive Committee member of the British Comparative Literature Association (and organiser of its John Dryden Translation Competition), she is also a translator between German and English and the editor of the Visible Poets series of bilingual poetry books (Arc Publications). Her research is mainly in the areas of translation, style and poetry, and recent publications include The German Language (with Ken Lodge, Blackwell 2002); Between Nothing and Nothing (translated poems of Ernst Meister, Arc Publications 2003); A Fine Line: New Poetry from Eastern and Central Europe (ed., with A. Buchler and F Sampson, Arc Publications 2004); and Stylistic Approaches to Translation ( St Jerome Publishing 2006).
