This course is intended for postgraduates and staff with a basic knowledge of Latin (typically equivalent to GCSE level or that of the Classics Department's beginners' course) who wish to improve their language skills and to develop a proficiency in medieval and early-modern Latin through the study of a wide range of primary texts.

The course offers a means of reviewing Latin grammar and aims to introduce participants to the variations in vocabulary, spelling, punctuation etc. which problematise the reading of post-classical texts. A large part of each class will be spent on reading Latin texts dating from between the fourth and the seventeenth centuries.

Classes will be held weekly on Mondays, in room H450, between 5-6.30pm and a provisional list of the extracts which will be studied is provided below. All sessions will be taught by Dr. Luca Asmonti.
