Stratford-upon-Avon Poetry Festival: Readings at Warwick

As part of the prestigious Stratford-upon-Avon Poetry Festival (PDF Document) two special readings will take place at the University on Thursday 14 May.

Beginning in Gladness: New Poets


This first event is a unique showcase of poetry from the bright young things of the Universities of Warwick, Birmingham, East Anglia and Northampton - taught by the poets who take to the platform later this evening.

This event will take place in the Studio, The CAPITAL Centre, Millburn House at 6.00pm.

Admission to this event is free

Prize Winning Poetry

This second event takes place at 7.30 on the same evening. The Warwick Writing Programme will introduce three major poets: George Szirtes, Zoë Brigley and Luke Kennard:

  • George Szirtes won the prestigious TS Eliot Award for Poetry in 2004 for his book Reel. His New and Collected Poems were recently published by Bloodaxe
  • Zoe Brigley was the winner of a Gregory Award in 2003 (awarded to British poets under the age of 30); her first collection The Secret was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and long-listed for the Dylan Thomas Prize
  • Luke Kennard was, at 26, the youngest poet to be shortlisted for the Forward Prize with his second collection The Harbour Beyond the Movie

This event will take place in the Studio, The CAPITAL Centre, Millburn House at 7.30pm.

Tickets: Students: £2.00, Everyone else £7.00. Ticket price includes a free glass of wine or juice at the interval.
