Ahead of a major event at Shakespeare’s Globe, two modern-day companies of ‘boy players’ perform at the CAPITAL Centre.

Around the time Shakespeare was writing Hamlet, the theatrical world was rocked by the new trend for 'boy companies'- theatrical troupes made up entirely of boys, who performed complex plays written specifically for them by the same playwrights who were writing for the adult players.

Now, as part of an ongoing project, two modern-day boy companies have been formed, led by Carol Rutter of the CAPITAL Centre and Perry Mills, teacher at King Edward VI School. This evening is the culmination of several months’ work by local schoolchildren, and offers a chance to see two plays ahead of their public performance at Shakespeare’s Globe on March 2^nd.

The evening at Warwick will be introduced by Professor Carol Rutter and will include performances of the two short plays by John Marston, The Dutch Courtesan and Antonio and Mellida, by boys from King Edward VI School in Stratford-upon-Avon and Dulwich College.

This promises to be a unique experience, and is a must for anyone interested in Renaissance theatre.
