U8 Summit: Speaker Event - To what extent do developing countries have a say in the policies that affect them?

Saturday 10 March 2007, 17:00

The 2007 U8 International Development Speaker Event is an opportunity for both students and the wider public to engage with policy-makers and experts in the field of international development. The theme - "To what extent do developing countries have a say in the policies that affect them?" - is reflective of both the perception that it is the developed world, primarily the G8 countries, that control development strategies around the world, and the awareness that it is often difficult to translate global ideals into local, positive change in poorer countries.

The Speaker Event is a forum for considering development issues such as trade, health, environment and conflict, and the ways in which to promote a culture of inclusion throughout the world. The Speakers will include Salil Shetty (Director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign), Kingsley Moghalu (Head of Global Partnerships at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria), Jean-Christophe Bas (Development Policy Dialogue Manager at The World Bank) and a representative from the African Union.

Tickets can be purchased at the Warwick Arts Centre - visit http://www.warwickartscentre.co.uk/events/id/3233 or visit www.u8development.org.uk
