Professor Angela Clerk from the University of Reading will present this seminar, speaking on 'Signalling to gene expression in cardiac myocytes'.

Abstract

Cardiomyocytes, the terminally-differentiated contractile cells in the heart, undergo hypertrophic growth in response to agonists such as endothelin-1.

In contrast, oxidative stress promotes apoptosis and/or necrosis. Our studies focus on delineating and understanding the intracellular signalling mechanisms and their impact on gene expression that leads to cardiomyocyte hypertrophy or death.
