Inspiring Women 2016
We were delighted to welcome Pauline Black to deliver the first ‘Inspiring Women’ talk of 2016. The singer-songwriter, actress, presenter and now published author of ‘Black by Design’ came to speak to a packed Woods-Scawen lecture theatre. She talked about her career and early life as well as her arrival in Coventry from Essex to first study and then become part of the 2-Tone music explosion of the late 1970s.
Sue Bennett Director of Student Careers and Skills, who chaired the event, said:
It was an immense privilege to meet and listen to Pauline. Here was someone who overcame both racism and sexism to carve out her tremendous career. She struck a chord with people and they responded to her authenticity, resilience and amazing style. I particularly loved her line ‘there is always an elegant solution to any problem’ and ‘no one tells me what to do- unless I am in mortal danger."
