Vote for Warwick Arts Centre's Boys Dancing project

Your votes can help Warwick Arts Centre to turn their long running and energetic Boys Dancing project into a nationwide initiative, after the project reached the final of the National Lottery Awards 2014 – in the Best Arts Project category.

Boys Dancing projectWith National Lottery Funding support, Boys Dancing has given over 2,000 boys and young men across the West Midlands the opportunity to prove that dance is definitely for them. Led by the brilliant team of seasoned professional dancers, early career dance artists and dance apprentices the boys have choreographed, rehearsed and performed dozens of live dance pieces and dance films.

Everything they have done has been recorded and all the films and photos can be seen on the project website, www.boysdancing.org, together with stories from the boys, their teachers and parents and brand new teacher development videos.

Boys Dancing projectOne participant, Ben Morley, who was initially involved in Boys Dancing as a schoolboy, went on to study dance at university and will be working as a choreographer on Boys Dancing projects in the Black Country. Ben said:

Boys Dancing, ultimately, helped me to realise what I wanted to do in life. I’d say it made me who I am today and gave me the opportunity to meet some remarkable people on the way. When I was younger I was very shy, very quiet, but now it’s opened the door for me and given me so many amazing opportunities. And I’ve learnt to really apply myself and go after something that I want - you can’t expect things to just fall into your lap."

The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery funded projects. The winners will receive a National Lottery Award trophy and a £2,000 cash prize.

Warwick Arts Centre's Education Director Brian Bishop said:

Our aim is to make Boys Dancing a national project and this prize would help give even more boys the opportunity to dance – vote for us!"
