In memoriam: Colin Brummitt

The University is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Colin Brummitt OBE, who was Finance Officer here from 1977 to his retirement in 1993. Colin died on Monday 18 June 2018, at the age of 85.

Colin played a huge part in Warwick life. He was one of only four people to lead the University Finance Office, and was Head Warden at Cryfield and brought many of the residential life team into the system. He was treasurer to the Retired Staff Association for a number of years after he left in 1993 – the year in which he was awarded an honorary degree. He played a crucial role in supporting and developing Warwick Arts Centre, championing student music in particular, helping to create the Centre we are all so proud of today.

Rosie Drinkwater, Group Finance Director, said:

We will miss Colin enormously. He was a regular attendee at Finance Office events and his humour and vitality brought a sense of fun to every event he attended. His Finance Office Christmas parties were legendary but he was also a very wise and forward thinking Finance Officer. His legacy includes developments such as Warwick Arts Centre, Radcliffe and Scarman as well as recruiting his successor James Hunt (who recruited me).

His love of art, music and finance and his dedication to students was very apparent and he is for us one of Warwick’s great leaders."

Colin's funeral will be held at Charter Chapel, Canley Crematorium (family flowers only) at 11.30am on Monday 9 July.
