Welcome to our new Commercial Director

Rupert Lawrie joins Warwick on 1 August 2018 as Commercial Director. In this role, he will be responsible for the University’s income-generating business streams including Warwick Employment Group, Warwick Conferences, Warwick Retail, Warwick Arts Centre and Warwick Sport, focused on creating positive experiences for internal and external visitors, and generating surplus for the University to fund teaching, research and facilities. He will lead the team of 500 staff in campus and commercial services.

Hear from Rupert on the new role:

I’m delighted to be taking up the new role of Commercial Director at Warwick. I am a native of Exeter in Devon. Having completed my education in Exeter, I have moved around the UK for various roles and I am currently living in Chelmsford, Essex with my two children and a dog. With a career predominantly working as a board director focused on retail brands and commercial infrastructure, I have worked both in the UK and internationally. Having worked for various international brands such as P&O, Pret a Manger, Starbucks Coffee, my most recent role has been as an adviser within the field of airport acquisitions in Europe, Asia, South and North America.

In my free time I love to travel, exploring new cultures and I’m currently training as a pilot and enjoying various outdoor activities when time and weather permits.

I’m delighted to be joining Warwick and I see the role of Commercial Director as pivotal to the sustainable success of Warwick’s future, and I am really looking forward to being part of the team. With the team and staff at Warwick already achieving so much as an institution, that is recognised as progressive, inclusive, highly respected and successful, it will be an exciting next phase of the journey and one I’m proud to be part of.

When you see me on campus please take the opportunity to say hello & introduce yourself, and of course check I’m not lost!”
