Over 100 students took part in eleven volunteering activities, including giving Canley Community Centre a makeover by painting murals and clearing the garden; running a disco for a local social group for people with disabilities; an overnight craft session to create bee boxes and jewellery to donate to local charity shops; tree planting in Canley and a moonlit sponsored walk.

Warwick Volunteers provides opportunities for students at the University of Warwick to volunteer in a variety of roles within the local community, working with a range of community partners in Coventry, Leamington and Kenilworth. 2600 students are members of Warwick Volunteers, and each year over 1,000 Warwick students get involved with volunteering, whether it’s in schools, in the community or outdoors.

DoMore24-3Do More 24 was the idea of the Warwick Volunteers Student Executive Committee. President Emily Muir said:

We wanted to create an event that highlighted the fantastic contribution that Warwick Volunteers make to the local community throughout the year, as well as providing opportunities for students who have never tried volunteering before to get involved.

“It’s the first time we have attempted a volunteering event on this scale but the response from both the students and community partners has been brilliant and it’s great to see the impact our 24 hours of volunteering has made”.

Do More 24 was supported by the Santander Universities programme.
