Energy GRP Research Awards 2014
In relation to the recent funding call issued by the Energy GRP to provide awards, 13 high quality applications were received from across the academic community, with submissions from Engineering, WMG, Physics, Chemistry and Warwick Business School.
The aims of these awards are to provide funds for modest support for research activity specifically related to any activities in the field of energy and/or pump-priming support for the development of new research initiatives and/or demonstrators in the area of Energy which are creative and innovative and clearly of a strategic nature.
After consideration by the panel, awards of between £5,000 and £20,000 have been offered to the following projects:
Researchers | Departments | Project Title |
Dr Xiaowei Zhao | Engineering | Suppression of vibrations of wind turbine towers using tuned mass damping systems |
Dr John Murphy and Dr Maksym Myronov | Engineering and Physics | Initial development of a non-destructive imaging technique to identify efficiency-limiting crystal defects in silicon carbide for power devices |
Dr Rachel Edwards | Physics | Liquid crystal sensors for high resolution monitoring of power components and structures |
Dr Rebecca Cain | Physics and WMG | PVTree: Imagining a 3D future |
