£495,318 innovation grant awarded to Estates
The Estates office Sustainability & Energy team together with WMG (Scott Crowther and Rebecca Cain) have been awarded £495,318 under the Technology Strategy Board “Innovative Refurbishment” competition.
The Estates office will upgrade around 50% of Social Studies building heating controls to develop innovative heating controls and users engagement systems.
The project will retrofit an innovative wireless Heating Micro-management System (HMS). Using tablet and smartphone interfaces, the system will provide real-time information about the use of the building and its heating system. It hands control to both the building management team and the occupants at a room-by-room level, and allows user interfaces to be updated at will to ensure engagement and impact.
The project will run from September 2013 until May 2015.
