The G20 Youth Forum, being held in St Petersburg from 17-21 April 2013, is the largest international event for young leaders in 2013. Over 1,500 representatives from business and government together with students and young experts in the fields of international relations, economics, finance and law will take part in the event. Warwick will be represented by Jenny Quigley-Jones, a final year undergraduate student selected by IATL and sponsored by the University.

About the G20 Youth Forum

The Forum aims to involve young people around the world in resolving the most pressing current economic and social problems, establishing intercultural dialogue and building lasting global partnerships and relationships. The three-day G20 Youth Summit will result in the production of a communique, discussed and approved by the participants. The communique will be disseminated globally, and shared in particular with the G20 Heads of States and leading international organisations such as the IMF, the World Bank, OECD and the European Commission.

About Jenny Quigley-Jones

Jenny is studying History and Politics. She spent her second year at the University of California, Los Angeles and was an Intern at the Center for American Progress, National Security division in Washington DC. Jenny was awarded an IATL Student as Producer Research grant in 2010/11 for a research project on female entrepreneurship in Colombia, which was subsequently published in the Reinvention Journal. She hopes to study Middle Eastern Politics after she completes her undergraduate degree at Warwick.

Each of the world's top 200 universities is sending a representative to debate international issues; it shows what a global institute Warwick is. The Summit looks like it will be a truly one-of-a-kind experience, with discussion on topics such as food security during the day, sightseeing in St. Petersburg, and dance lessons to prepare attendees for the final ball in the style of 1913 Russia! It will be wonderful to meet students and delegates from across the G20 nations, and discuss research topics with them.”

The G20 Youth Forum is one of a range of international events attended by Warwick students this academic year. In October 2012, Nicole de Menezes and Griselda Denizi, both undergraduate students and recent winners of Warwick Global Advantage Awards, were sponsored by the University to attend the One Young World summit in Philadelphia.

As well as being an excellent opportunity for students to explore and impact pressing global issues, the energy and inspiration international event attendees bring back to the University has a valuable and lasting impact on Warwick as well.
