Online careers event for PhDs a massive success for jobs.ac.uk

On Wednesday 22 January, jobs.ac.uk hosted their first Google+ Hangout on Air, a live online, two-way conversation, streamed live on their website, Google+, YouTube and on the Big Screen Piazza.jobs_ac_head250.jpg

This event, titled 'How to secure a job after your PhD' featured a panel of experts selected by jobs.ac.uk, including Warwick’s Dr Ioanna Iordanou, Teaching Fellow and PhD Development Coordinator at Warwick Business School. It was chaired by Aimee Bateman from careercake.com who has also appeared as a careers advisor on the BBC.

This first pilot event took place in the middle of graduation week and Warwick Retails popular market day and received a lot of interest. Running the hashtag along the screen gave people in the Piazza the chance to join in on Twitter and made this event feel very interactive.

The social media conversations continued around the topic after the live broadcast with many people feeling very jobs_ac_google_hangout1_200.jpgpositive and inspired after the event.

Some comments from viewers:

The #JobsQ hangout was really useful, I'll be sharing tips with colleagues in my office. Thanks @jobsacuk and the team behind the webinar!"

Thank you! I was feeling a little bit sad and after this hangout I feel more energetic and motivated. Is really important to find people that teaches you, supports you, understands you and that really want to help you. Thank you all for sharing your experience."

Alison Osborne, Digital Marketing Officer, from jobs.ac.uk said:

We are thrilled with the response and feedback about our first Google+ Hangout on Air. We wanted to actively connect with our rapidly growing social media audience and offer them some valuable advice on a subject they were keen to know more about. The panel and ourselves were overwhelmed with the response, posts and support on the day and hope to continue to provide our audience with valuable expert advice on topics they want to hear more about. The video recording is now available in our Careers Advice section on our website so that anyone can get a recap of the tips and advice in their own time.’
