BIS Consultation on the Higher Education Green Paper

The University submitted its response to the BIS consultation on the Higher Education green paper 'Fulfilling our Potential: Teaching Excellence, Social Mobility and Student Choice’ on 15 January 2016.

This follows on from an online consultation with students and staff to enable them to submit their views on the paper – many thanks to everyone who contributed to help inform our response, and thank you to the Students’ Union, heads of department and Senate and its committees for their contributions.

In addition to the broad internal conversation that has taken place, a number of colleagues have participated in sector discussions, and have attended consultation events run by BIS. We have also contributed to a number of responses from sector groups such as the Russell Group, HEFCE and Universities UK.

How have we responded?

The consultation paper includes a number of questions covering a wide range of different areas, including the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), widening participation, graduate employability and opening up the HE sector to new providers. Our full response is available here (PDF Document).

What happens next?

Green Papers are consultation documents produced by the Government in order to allow people inside and outside Parliament to give feedback on policy or legislative proposals. This consultation has been undertaken at an early stage, and we understand there is therefore much further detail to emerge. The Government will consider the feedback to the consultation to inform its next steps.
