Godiva to awake on campus: 28 July

Godiva Awakes statueA six-metre-high puppet of Lady Godiva will be striding across campus on Monday as part of the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) World Congress.

Coventry-based Imagineer Productions are bringing their huge mechanical puppet to campus in a variation of Godiva’s Odyssey. During the opening ceremony for the congress on Monday 28 July, Lady Godiva will awake and will make her way along University Road, guiding all delegates to Warwick Arts Centre. Come along and watch the procession, which departs from WMG / the International Manufacturing Centre around 4pm.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a performance of Broken by the Leamington-Spa based theatre company Motionhouse. The performance will take place in the Butterworth Hall at 7.15pm. You'll be able to watch a live stream on the Big Screen in the Piazza, and we're also streaming the performance to outdoor screens in Coventry, Swindon and Woolwich.

The Opening Ceremony is sponsored by the Warwick Commission on the Future of Cultural Value.

Hosted by School of Theatre, Performance and Cultural Policy Studies, the congress is being held at Warwick for the first time and and a whole host of social and cultural events (some of which are open to the public) have been planned for the expected 900 delegates, who are coming from some 68 different nations.
