Congratulations to the latest round of winners of awards from Warwick’s international partnership funds. This year we were able to make 23 awards across the two funds; International and Brazil, awarding over £100k of funding to support collaborations over the next two years.

Over the past six years the partnership funds have supported collaborations across the globe in key developed and emerging research economies, including Brazil, China, India, USA, Singapore and South Africa.

The funds are administered by the International Office and applications to the funds are evaluated by an academic panel, appointed by Chairs of Faculty, and representing all four Faculties. This year the funds were chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Jones, who said:

The University’s continued support for these international partnership funds highlights the increasing importance of international collaboration to the production of high-quality research. Not only does international collaboration raise the profile of the University’s research, and bring us gains through the sharing of knowledge and resources, it also places us in a stronger position to tackle issues of global relevance.

2014-15 awards

For the International Partnership Fund, which was open to applications for collaboration from any country, we awarded collaborations across 6 countries including; USA, China, India, South Africa, Mexico and Indonesia. We were able to make awards to support Warwick’s institutional-level collaborations with Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Centre in China, and the Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia.

Eleven awards were made through the Brazil Partnership Fund which ran for the fourth time, and was once again funded by Santander. Since 2011 we have seen a number of significant collaborations emerging with some of the country’s leading institutions, notably; University of Sao Paulo (USP), University of Campinas (UNICAMP), PUC-Rio and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).

The partnership funds are intended to pump-prime collaborations that will lead to externally-funded international collaborations, and successful applicants to the funds were required to demonstrate the collaboration’s potential, not only for innovative and creative research, but also the scope for inter- and multi- disciplinary research, the incorporation of partnership-building activities, as well as the potential to develop links with industry.
