IFTR comes to Warwick

The School of Theatre, Performance and Cultural Policy Studies will be hosting the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) World Congress 2014 from 27 July – 1 August. It is the first IFTR conference to be held in the UK since 1998.

The week-long event on the theme of Theatre and Stratification will include over 650 talks, a multitude of performances, and various social events to showcase the cultural wealth of the region.

Distinguished keynote speakers, internationally-renowned artists and established and emerging experts across the spectrum of the performing arts will divide their time between sharing their work, exploring the area and experiencing the host nation’s culture.

Conference programme

The cultural programme will reflect the breadth of performance in the region, and will open with a performance by Motionhouse, the internationally-acclaimed dance theatre company based in Leamington Spa. The campus will be brought to life with a range of exciting cutting-edge performances and installations to take place throughout the week in the Studio Theatre and the Helen Martin Studio at Warwick Arts Centre, and in outdoor spaces across campus. There are also plans to hold an ‘Open Mic’ programme for delegates and local artists to showcase work, a theatrical ephemera and second-hand book sale, and a ‘Stage on Screen’ film festival in the Arts Centre’s cinema.

A diverse social programme will also be offered to delegates, enabling them to explore the wealth of history and attractions to be found in the Midlands.

Key dates

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 2014. Registration for accommodation and social programme opens on Saturday 1 March 2014.
