Our Institutional Teaching and Learning Review is underway

Panels for our Institutional Teaching and Learning Review (ITLR) began to meet on Monday 16 January 2017 and will continue to do so until 27 January. The ITLR will investigate every academic department’s teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, alongside the professional services that support the student experience, such as the Library, Admissions, IT Services, Student Careers and Skills and Wellbeing Support Services.

The ITLR, conducted every five years, has two main purposes: evaluation of the robustness of our quality assurance procedures, and strategies for continuous quality enhancement of learning and teaching. We will be building on the outcomes of the 2017 reviews at Faculty Engagements in March 2017, which will provide an opportunity to discuss common themes and responses to recommendations, and to share best practice.

This is a partnership process: students are actively involved as full panel members and in meeting with panels, working with staff to develop our systems and plans. A large number of staff from across departments and teams are also involved as panellists and presenters, supported by a central ITLR project team.

Chris Hughes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), comments

The ITLR is a significant commitment for all of us to ensure the high quality and continuous enhancement of our teaching and learning. This really is a whole-of-university effort. I am immensely grateful to the many staff and students who are giving their time, expertise and perspectives to support this important exercise and look forward to seeing the outcomes to help us to drive genuine improvements and innovation in our education provision.”

Nat Panda, Postgraduate Officer, Students’ Union said:

Students are active participants and collaborators when it comes to teaching and learning at Warwick, and the ITLR is no different. Students are full and equal members of every review panel, as well hundreds more who will share their experiences and perspectives on teaching and learning within their own departments. The SU looks forward to supporting our SSLC representatives to implement recommendations and best practice coming out of the review.”
