Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and Warwick have established a new £3 million collaboration that will create a joint team of 12 researchers, from a range of disciplines, to study the science, policy and economics of applied health research and delivery.

This builds on the internationally recognised and complementary strengths that already exist in the two institutions in areas including: global health, epidemiology, and health economics. Research from this collaboration will translate into cost-effective, affordable and scalable interventions for the world’s poorest populations.

Professor Janet Hemingway FRS (Director of LSTM) said:

LSTM is a leading innovator in global health with a £268 million research portfolio. This initiative will build on LSTM’s considerable reputation and provide the springboard for larger scale interdisciplinary operational and translational research programmes that draw on the strengths of the University of Warwick. Warwick is one of the UK’s leading research universities with established expertise in cross-disciplinary areas such as epidemiology, biological sciences; systems modelling, digital healthcare, health economics and translational research.”

Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift said:

The new programme will seek to recruit from the best rising stars available in the world, as well as through the appointment of a number of established leaders, who believe they can make a difference to global health initiatives through research programmes in the following subject areas:

• Capacity Development – Lecturer/ Assistant Professor
• Epidemiology – Lecturer/ Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor
• Tropical Diagnostics - Lecturer/ Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor
• Complex Interventions (Statistics of Applied Health Research) – Chair/ Professor
• Non Communicable Diseases - Chair/ Professor
• Research Synthesis - Lecturer/ Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor
• Nursing and Midwifery – Chair/ Professor
• Child Health - Lecturer/ Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor
• Neglected Tropical Diseases – Chair/ Professor
• Quality of Care - Lecturer/ Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor
