New computer purchasing framework

IT Services and the Purchasing Office have launched a new procurement framework for departments and staff to purchase desktop and laptop computers.

To make the purchasing process simpler, staff can now choose from a range of ‘quick-pick’ options. These are models which have been evaluated on their suitability for use at Warwick and how they meet the standard requirements of University staff. All desktops have been been tested with the Managed Windows 7 Desktop and Managed Linux Desktop. Laptops have been tested with the Managed Windows 7 Desktop.

Models listed in the ‘quick-pick’ options are typically available at more competitive prices, and with faster delivery times, than computers with custom specifications. Also, all computer purchases now include a four-year warranty as standard.

Staff who wish to buy computers which are not in the list of ‘quick-pick’ options, or want to buy a computer with a custom specification to meet their individual requirements, will be able to do so via each supplier's online shop.

In response to feedback from departments, there are four suppliers on the procurement framework rather than a single supplier. The Purchasing Office therefore advise departments that they should be able to demonstrate they can justify their choice of supplier. Further guidance is available from the Purchasing Office.

The four approved suppliers are:

  • Dell (supplying their own desktops and laptops)
  • DTP (a reseller of HP desktops and laptops)
  • Softcat (a reseller of Lenovo desktops and laptops)
  • Viglen (supplying their own desktops and as a reseller of Toshiba laptops)
