Office 365 and Office 2013

IT Services have now made Office 365 and Office 2013 available to all staff and research students. These two services open up a new way of working, making it easy to collaborate and share information and to work away from your desk via nothing more than a browser - e.g. Internet Explorer or Chrome.

What is Office 365?

Office 365 is an entirely online version of Microsoft Office. Basically, it's an extension of the existing webmail system we have. It offers access to online file creation and editing tools, document storage, and tools to help you collaborate with other staff and research students.

For more information on how to access and use Office 365, see the Office 365 information page.

What is Office 2013? How is it different to Office 365?

Office 2013 is the latest edition of the Microsoft Office software that will come standard on all ITS managed desktops later this year. You can use it the same way you used any previous versions (Office 2010, Office 2007 etc.), but there's an important new feature. It's designed to work in harmony with Office 365, so you can save and open files directly from your online storage space when you need to.

The University is moving towards using Office 2013 as standard, so you’ll need to upgrade to it before the start of the new academic year. If you currently use any Access 97 format databases, you should take a look at our Access 97 files information before upgrading.

For more information on how to access and use Office 2013, see the Office 2013 information pages.
