British Council Brazil, together with FAPESP (Research Council for the State of São Paulo - where 50% of Brazil's research is made) are launching a bid to fund workshops that will gather universities from the UK and the State of São Paulo.

The workshops are designed to provide financial support to bring together a UK/São Paulo State cohort of early career researchers (up to 20 participants on each side) to take part in a workshop focusing on building links for future collaboration and enhancing the researchers’ career opportunities. Workshops will be coordinated by two leading researchers, one from UK, one from a higher education and research institution in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and will focus on either a specific research area or an interdisciplinary theme (for example ‘Sustainable Cities’).

The workshop coordinators can identify up to four other leading or well-established researchers to be involved in the workshop, to act as mentors, but the remaining participants must be researchers at an earlier stage in their career. Proposals will be accepted in any discipline/multidisciplinary area including from the natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities (see full call for further details). FAPESP and the British Council will co-fund the workshops.

The workshop should take place in the State of São Paulo, and no later than the end of March 2014.

The deadline to present proposals for the workshops is 14 July 2013.

Since 2011 the University of Warwick has been focussing at the institutional level on Brazil. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Jones has visited in June 2012 and 2013, internal pump-priming funds have been made available through the Brazil Partnership Fund, and the University is engaging at all levels with the Brazil Government's Science without Borders initiative.
