On Tuesday 29 April at 6pm Sir Michael Barber will be giving the next distinguished lecture entitled 'Getting every child into school and learning; why wait?' Former Chief Adviser at Department for Education, Department for International Development and Head of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, Sir Michael Barber is one of the world’s foremost experts on education.

This lecture will examine the task of getting all the world's primary age children into school and learning. At the moment 57 million children, mostly girls, are not in school and another 250 million or so are in school but not learning anything. A recent UNESCO report said that at present rates it would take decades more to achieve universal education. Using the example of a bold reform in Punjab Pakistan, the lecture will argue that if we had the will and a systematic approach to implementation, universal education could be achieved within a decade.
