Social Sciences Impact Awards 2013: Nominations open

Nominations are now open for the Faculty of Social Sciences Impact Awards. The awards recognise researchers for the time, hard work and thought they put into engaging the public with the benefits of their research.

By recognising this important aspect of researchers’ work, it will help strengthen research-related impact as a core component of university research plans, and at the heart of research projects. It will also encourage academics to reassess the ways in which research projects are created, carried out and disseminated so that they are conducted in such a way as to bring the greatest amount of benefits to the greatest number of people.

Over the past year, nominated researchers should have:

  • involved the public – whether groups, organisations or individuals – in any aspect of their research
  • made efforts to communicate research findings to non-academic audiences
  • engaged with the public through knowledge sharing activities that are related to the researcher’s general research area

The impact may or may not be related to a specific or funded research project.

There are separate categories for established researchers and early career researchers, and academic staff and students can nominate themselves or others.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday 3 April 2013 at 4pm, and the winners will be announced at a Faculty lunch on 23 May 2013.
